[ TAIWAN ] Taipei 6D5N (04 Jan - 09 Jan 2013)

Tuesday, 14 June 2016

Below is about my trip to Taipei back during 2013 (3 years late).
My first overseas trip with my sisters.

DAY ONE - 03/04 JAN 2013
Midnight flight (3rd Jan) to Taipei (4th Jan).
Reached Changi Aiport around 10PM.
Had Mcdonald for a quick supper before our 4 hours mid-night flight to Taipei.

Yiwen join us on this trip as she happens to be available, seats on the same flight as us were still available, so she managed to book a seat for herself and also that the room we booked comes with 2 Queen size bed which means that we have enough bed space for her to join us.

Took Scoot to Taipei but I gotta say that the seat leg space was small so I was struggling to sleep on the plane. Was trying to sleep because I was working the day before.

My breakfast after touch down. Corn and broccoli soup with mango juice.
It was kinda cold the moment we touch down and I felt that I need to drink something to warm up my body.
Waited at the airport as we have to purchase the Sim Card which the counters only opens at 8AM.

We were sort of playing around the airport.
Making a fool of ourselves.
The temperature I remembered was around 13 degree.

While waiting for both sisters (who had went to the toilet), me and Yiwen were going in and out of the airport side door to feel the air.
We had to know what to expect of the weather especially when we're going during the winter season.

Cab down to the Hotel and deposit our luggage as we were too early.
We were staying at Caesar Park Taipei.
The Hotel is literally situated above Taipei Main Station.

The moment we left the Hotel, a strong gust of wind proved to us that we were no match to the cold weather.
Were screaming because it was freaking cold.

Thinking that a simple legging from Singapore would be enough for the cold weather, I had to regret after that because it was simply too cold that I was shaking so badly due to the temperature. I did not have any winter coat with me, just a normal hooded jacket.

Outside Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall

This place sure was big that it took us about 2 hours to finish the place. We were amazed a everything we see. From history to art.

We even get a chance to witness the guards changing ceremony.
Stood on the 2nd level of the museum to view the shift changing process.

The memorial hall was near to Taipei 101. Spot the rainbow within the fog.

The heartwarming scene of a grandpa and grandma walking side by side.
They had a empty wheelchair, rather walk side by side than one on the wheelchair and the other walking alone.

We were originally intending to visit the tower to see the scenery but the fog was too much that we have to cancel the plan and settled for a simple lunch at the foodcourt at the basement of Taipei 101.

A usual, a Singaporean tastebud could never miss the chicken rice.
My lunch. As usual. Chicken rice.

Went back to the Hotel around 2PM and checked in. Took a quick nap to refresh ourselves for the rest of the day.
There are good and bad points for midnight flights.
Good points is that you get to enjoy more time in the visited country and bad point is that you tend to be very tired.

After experiencing the cold weather, I quickly changed into my jeans before we head out.
No more leggings after that. It was way too cold for the leggings to withstand the coldness.
We headed off to Raohe Night Market to settle our dinner.

Tried the first smelly tofu in my life.
We bought it off from the aunty who left with 4 piece.
Bought it from her so she could close her shop and go home early on this cold weather.
She was nice enough to wait for us to finish our food and throw away the rubbish for us.

Taipei is very environmental friendly, so you barely get to see alot of rubbish bins.
This is to cut down the usage of non-recycleable materials.

They had special queue area for ladies.
This is to protect ladies who are waiting for transportation at night.

Gotta thanks sis BF's mum for preparing this for us, it was really useful for the trip as we had it place at our screen to know the calculation.

DAY TWO - 05 JAN 2013
We headed to Q Square for our breakfast.
My sister had initially wanted to bring us to have Bagel for breakfast but the cafe was full house, so we settled for Starbucks and decide to come back again to try our luck on Bagel.

Starbucks for breakfast and I gotta say that the prices of the food is way much cheaper than Singapore.
My chocolate croissant and hot chocolate drink to start the day.

Head off to 十分 to put up the 天灯 and to see the famous 十分瀑布.

We had to switch train to get to 十分.

Our trip to
十分瀑布 was a great view to see.
Getting to 十分瀑布 would require us to gown down a steep staircase then crossing the railway tracks before reaching the entrance of the location.

The steep staircase man made out of stones and bricks were kind of slippery after drizzle.
It was still drizzling but it was fine for us since we are use to this kind of weather.
Weather was cold, we even had ice pop each.

The magnificent waterfall that everyone was queuing to get in front of it for photos. Be prepare to get wet cause the force of the waterfall were spewing the water out.

The drama thing where couples hold their hands in each other pockets cos it was cold.

The different wishes that we have for our future. Different color represent different meaning.

The son of the 天灯 shop has great photography skills. This was already high up in the sky and he manage to take such a clear photo of our 天灯. My camera was a lousy one.

We stopped by a cafe selling hot drinks and there is this cute mini cart outside the cafe selling the kueh type food. Since it was cold, we bought the hot drink together with the kueh to keep ouselves warm.

This was sold by a young university guy on holiday break.
Delicious, good to eat on a cold day.

There is no law restriction to light up fireworks so there were many people lighting up.
We stayed till the night cause our train ticket back to Taipei was around 8PM.

There is so many cats around 十分.
What I bought from 十分. Good lucky charm, wooden puzzle and surname keychain.
Headed to 士林 but didn't take much photo. Just that I was amazed by the "exotic" animals that they kept.
Snake. Python.

DAY THREE - 06 JAN 2013
We woke up rather late so we decide to head out for brunch at this restaurant that my sis had wanted to go during her previous trip.
The 9 course meal. I love the freshness of the sea urchin.

Head to the place where it sells the chocolate mochi.
Didn't take any photos so I got no photos of our whereabouts in the afternoon
Went back to the Hotel to put the shoppings then head out to Miramar.

Miramar from far. This is where the famous Taiwanese drama "换换爱" shot their scene.
We had our dinner at a nearby foodcourt cause the food in Miramar was rather expensive.
Bought the ticket to the ferris wheel before having our dinner.

Took this shot while eating ice cream.
You'll receive a ticket to exchange a complimentary scoop of ice cream which is just outside the entrance of the ferris wheel.

Other than the ticket to complimentary scoops of ice-cream there is also a ticket to a complimentary ride at this marry-go-round but we gave it to kids nearby. We're too old for this small ride.

The cabin for the ferris wheel was shaky. Though I was afraid of heights but I love this ride.
Head back to the Hotel after that. We were tired from the outing for the day.

And so play time in the Hotel. Laughing our heads off.
The small one was complaining of back pain so my elder one decide to give her a "good" massage on the bed.

My younger sis then started opening the Hotel room closet and she spot some clothes cleaning brush and sticks.
Then she started with some fashion show and "kungfu" samurai ninja actions in the room.
She and her never-ending antics.

DAY FOUR - 07 JAN 2013

Went to Q Square again to have the N.Y Bagels Cafe cos it was full the day earlier and we couldn't have our chance. I gotta say that I wasn't a fan of bagels.

Went to 北投 for some private 温泉 time. Didn't take photos.
We didn't stay there for long and literally left after the hotspring.
Staff at the hotspring lodge was nice enough to let us squeeze into 1 private room though their max capacity was 3. We have 4.

The above photos was taken after our 温泉 trip.
Went to 淡水渔人码头 after that. It was super cold.
I had my 香肠 and sister had their 大肠包小肠 (糯米肠 wrapping the 香肠)

We wanted to try their tall ice cream but ordered this height cause we knew we will not be able to finish it because the weather was rather cold.
We did not finish the cone because it was getting really cold by the time we finished the ice cream that was above the cone.
Taking turns to have the ice cream.

It was rather late by the time we head home. Look at the time on my ticket.
Lucky the train timing is until 12:30AM which we made it back to our Hotel.

DAY FIVE - 08 JAN 2013

We head out late morning cause we were going to 野柳.
Had Mcdonald for breakfast.

Met this really nice cab driver who drove us to 野柳 and his kindness doesn't end there.
I'll explain further later on.
The friendly cab driver lent us his umbrella as we didn't have extra. Didn't expect it to rain.

His name is Lin Min Lang.
Treated us like his own cause he said that his daughter is around our age. Bought fruits for us and even cut up for us to have it.
This super friendly cab driver bought fruits for us and bought extra for us to bring back to our Hotel to eat.
Knowing that we are going home the next day and offered to send us to the airport.

He know that we were a little hungry and drove us to this old looking area to have our lunch.
Super delicious noodle, meatball soup and 卤肉饭.
He intro us to the shop owner like his own daughter.

He brought us to 2 more locations before we ended our day.
He brought us to the 国民革命忠烈祠 and to 剥皮寮.
The friendly driver waited for us and didn't really have any food. Pity him. So around 8PM, we told him that we are tired and wanted to rest.
But in fact we wanted him to have his dinner. He say his wife cooks everyday.

This is where they shoot the famous Taiwan movie "猛甲" known as "Manga".
This place is known as 剥皮寮.

Before we left, he gave us his number.

Bought some food from their 7-Eleven to end the day.
We're going home the next day so we didn't really go out much. Decide to rest early.

DAY SIX (LAST DAY) - 09 JAN 2013

Woke up early to have our breakfast at the Korean restaurant at the basement of our Hotel.

I ordered Bibimbap for breakfast. Couldn't finish it.
Head back after that to pack up.

The cab driver was already waiting for us around 11AM.
We checked out at 12PM.
Felt bad for him waiting for us.

The scenery while on the way to the airport.
Our flight was afternoon flight. Kinda sad to leave. I fell in love with Taipei.

I was rather tired and fell asleep in the plane. Waking up mid-flight to have a croissant sandwich.
Touched down Singapore around 8:10PM. Went home straight after that. Dinner after reaching home.
